September 2004 Update

Rosemary with Monkey
Grandma with a subsitute grandchild---cute!

There is a place here located along a busy highway where the couples and tourists like to shop.  We call it "The Pit," probably because it's down in an area below the highway.  There is one shop and booth after another and they sell all kinds of African artifacts and crafts.   On one occasion when we were there someone had a pet monkey that was tied up.  Since Sister Armstrong loves animals and kids, she simply had to play with this monkey.  I think he is trying to make her go away, or maybe he is wondering about her pale skin.

Obviously a sign to keep stray people off the golf course---nothing to worry about!
Crocodile Pond
Mouseover to see where Dan went!!

At Cape Coast, there is a place people can stay called The Coconut Grove.  At this place there is a golf course.  Elder and Sister Armstrong were there with a couple who went out golfing.  They don't golf, so they just wandered around the golf course and came upon a sign saying there was a crocodile pond on the course. Of course, where there's a crocodile sign, there is a crocodile, right?  This little guy had to be coaxed with meat to get him to come out.  He was the baby of a threesome living in the pond.  His mom and pop stayed submerged below the murky water.  How would you like to retrieve your ball from this pond?

Members with Investigators
Investigator Family at New Town

We attended one of the wards on the outskirts of Accra called New Town Ward.  It was Fast Sunday and there were a lot of members there.  At the beginning of Fast and Testimony Meeting they welcomed a group of investigators who were sitting together in the back.  We thought maybe the investigators were just huddled together back there by coincidence until we found out later that they were brothers and sisters from the same family.  Having investigators in meetings every week is a common thing in Ghana.  Often there are several baptisms and confirmations of new members weekly.

Old Bridge
Is this a trick bridge, or an old movie set??

In Koforidua, on the way to Akaa Falls, you have to cross over this old wooden bridge.  It looks as though it could scarcely hold foot traffic, let alone supporting a car, but we just drove across it very carefully and did not plummet into the river below. Didn't we see that story in a movie once?

Akaa Falls
Dan and Rosemary at romantic Akaa Falls

In Koforidua, there are beautiful waterfalls that attract the locals and tourists alike.  This waterfall is called Akaa Falls and Elder and Sister Armstrong went there with several other couples.

Kids at Boti Falls
Teenagers having fun at Boti Falls

Another waterfall in Koforidua is called Boti Falls.  These falls are thunderous during the wet season but slow to a trickle during the dry season, which is around January and February.  On the day we were there these young people were having a ball playing in the water at the bottom of the falls.  Trust teenagers to have no fear.

Chicken on Sheep
Strange Companions

One time when Sister Armstrong was tracting with a couple in Koforidua, a beautiful area nestled in the hills of the Eastern Region of Ghana, they passed this comical sight.  A chicken had just jumped up onto the back of this goat (or is it a sheep?) and snuggled onto its back.  The comical part was that the goat seemed perfectly contented to have her there.
